My Approach
Breathing room counseling
I believe that we can learn a lot about what we are struggling with through relationship. I see my role in counseling as providing space for you to encounter, explore, and understand how you relate to yourself, to important people in your life, and to the world in general.
internal exploration
Relating to yourself
Deeply connecting to yourself through internal exploration can be a rich and helpful experience to gain clarity about what you are going through and why you might be going through it. I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) and find it to be an approachable methods for fostering internal awareness, learning, and healing. I also draw on other somatic approaches to help foster self-connection.
relationships
Relating to others
We can learn a lot about ourselves through how we relate and engage with others. The working relationship between you and me provides a unique opportunity to explore what is happening in the interactions between us, in ways other relationships often do not. Said differently, by focusing on what is going on between us in the counseling space, we can explore how these patterns of feeling, thinking, and acting may show up for you in other relationships.
Purpose
Relating to
the World
I find that the challenges clients bring to counseling are the wrapping on a set of really rich questions that, ultimately, we all face in some way:
Who are you? What is this thing called life? Where do you want to go from here?
Whether these questions are explored explicitly or not, my aim is to help clients feel a sense of meaning, purpose, direction, and agency. Exploring who you are through your relationship to yourself and others can be helpful for understanding how you relate to, or wish to relate, to your world.
